Life’s special moments create a career!

Lauren Sterling of Sturgis Michigan credits life and its special moments for the creation of Limelight Photography, a Sturgis-based photo studio that specializes in newborn, child and pet photography.

“After finishing my Masters in Social Work in 2007,” Sterling said, “I had planned to go to work full time. However, two months after graduation we had our first daughter that I could not bear to leave her.”

With an expanding family and just a single income, extras like children’s portraits were luxuries so, Lauren bought a camera and learned how to use it.

“In the process, I discovered a passion I didn’t know I owned!”

"Friends and family that had seen my photos began to ask me to photograph their children, too. At first I thought, 'No way!' but then I gave it a second thought and tried my hand at it."

Setting up a tiny studio in the back of her home, Lauren soon found herself booking five sessions a weekend!

"The growth was amazing!" she said, "and it grew to where we had clients coming in from as far away as Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Traverse City, creating the need for a separate location."

Scouting out new locations, Lauren said she favored a building in downtown Sturgis.

"“We found a great building in downtown Sturgis. It's a fabulous building with a lot of character and gives us the space needed to create images to be cherished for a lifetime."

In addition to newborns and children, Lauren also specializes in pet photography because she feels our pets are just as near and dear.

"Pets are family, too," she said, "and sadly, they leave us too soon. Photo sessions are a wonderful way to honor your furry family members and create images that you can cherish for a lifetime, too."

Raising four children, caring for pets and running a business can be daunting, but Lauren said being in Sturgis makes it all possible.

"Sturgis is a great central location and a wonderful town for us," she said. "Being here enables us to draw business from bigger cities like Kalamazoo and South Bend and still enjoy daily life with small town charm. We love it here! My husband is very involved in our community and our eldest daughter just finished kindergarten at Congress and loved it there, too! There's no other place we’d rather be!"
